Congratulatory Wishes

Louise Antony writes: "Idea: What if people like me, who can't come to the conference, but still want to get in on it somehow, sent congratulatory cards or e-cards that you might post on a board, or string up in some way, at the conference? I'd be willing to send the suggestion to the SWIP-list, if you wouldn't mind being on the receiving end. If you like the idea, let me know, and tell me whether to ask people to send their cards electronically, or by paper, and who to send them to."

A great idea! To make congratulatory wishes, please make a comment on this post.

  2. Happy birthday, Hypatia!
It seems both only yesterday that we dared to create such an unheard of thing as a feminist philosophy journal (starting out as an insert in, if I remember right, the NWSA journal) and also that Hypatia has always been in the world. The answer, I think, is that Hypatia helped to create a "world" in which we get to live and work, and from which we share the struggles to live in the other "worlds" we all inhabit.

Love to all and best wishes--til, as my grandmother used to say, 125 (although for a journal one can wish even greater longevity...)

  3. Happy Birthday Hypatia!
Hypatia was part of Women's Studies International Forum in its early years. Congratulations to everyone who has been a part of this innovative journal.

  6. I want to express my gratitude to those who have created and sustained Hypatia. This journal has helped shape my thinking, and informed my feminism.

  7. Congratualtions and thank you to all those (living and dead) who have contributed to the founding and on-going life of Hypatia.

Less formally: Wild cheering for this Birthday Celebration. A bit joy, a sense of community and spirit of gratitude are so important in academic philosophy today.

  8. Congratulations Hypatia! I'm so sorry I had to cancel my conference attendance. I wish I could have been there to join in the celebrations and all the intellectual energy that goes with wonderful feminist philosophy conferences!

  9. I'm two years late in commenting. Oh well. I wanted to say that I'm a pro-feminist thanks mostly to Hypatia (and a book by Andrea Nye I read in the mid 90s). Hypatia for me, over the last decade and a bit, has represented a particular flowering of human thought in the midst of a lot of dead patches. I was pleased to see that some of my favourite authors were present at the 25th anniversary conference. Congratulations, and I hope all the editions remain available for men who are open to a bit of consciousness raising in the future. Cheers, Dave in Australia.
